Letters for Healing

Rediscover the lost art of letter writing -
a path to healing or enhancing your relationships

In 2006, we—Sharon Alworth and Bonnie Birnam—had the dream of using the lost art of letter writing as a way for others to experience the healing that writing letters provided us.
Thus was born the book Letters to Fathers from Daughters: A Pathway to Healing and Hope.

Our new guidebook, Putting Your Heart on Paper: A Guide to Writing Letters for Healing is ready to be released. Others can now step through the process and experience the success, the healing, and the satisfaction, that can come from identifying and working through the emotions and actions surrounding the sometimes thorny, sometimes thrilling,
                                     situations in our lives.

                                               Our Mission

Our vision is to give voice and support to those who are on the path to healing. There are those who just wish to express gratitude and love—and others who must search for the gifts in otherwise difficult relationships. Sometimes the gifts are not obvious and require a bit of a journey to discover them.

The realizations and understandings can take years and may come after the one to whom we would like to express gratitude to is no longer living.  Even letters that are never sent can be beneficial. Although we have found the letter format to be the most conducive to the healing process, the "letter" need not take the form of a letter—it may be other prose or poetry, or a drawing or photo. It certainly could be music, as well, but that's a bit harder to put in a book.

The tremendous response to our first book was a sign to us that our mission is speaking to many people.   We invite you to join those who have already contributed and write your own letter for healing.  You may decide to share the letter—either with the one to whom it is addressed or submit it for inclusion in one of our upcoming books.  If it has been written for catharsis, you may wish keep it private.  You might even decide to shred it, to burn it, to use it to line the bottom of the bird cage.

We have included information for those who may have sensitive personalities. Those of us who are sensitive are especially affected by our relationships.  We hope you will find the information provided on the Are you Sensitive? page helpful.
